Happy Valentine's Day!

One of my favorite things so far: last night, after supper, there was a local steel band that played, they were AMAZING. It was so cool. Basically drums, auxiliary percussion and these cool things that look like steel drum things but sound kinda like a xylophone. The girls in my family all got up and danced.

Today was another relaxing day. We went snorkeling, which wasn't as good as some of the other snorkeling I've done, but still spectacular. Lots of Dori-like fish. We just got back from Shirley Heights. It's this cliff with a fantastic view of the ocean where we watched the sun set. There was a band playing, but the whole thing wasn't as good as we hoped; much too touristy. But while walking by couple of taxis, I heard Lady Gaga on the radio. I thought that was pretty funny. And while interrogating our taxi driver, he was complaining about boys and wearing pants bellow their waist. Another, similarity between Canada and Antigua.

I've been wished many 'Happy Valentine's Day' s here. So I suppose it's my turn to return it to you. Happy Valentine's day. (I'm even wearing red and white to supper just for the occasion).

Finally Here!

So...you know how we were supposed to fly out at 10:15 yesterday? well, it was delayed to 3:00. and then 3:30. So we had a five hour wait in the airport. It was crazy. Family members were contemplating going home (cause even then there was no GUARANTEE that we would fly out at 3:30-still too much ash). But we got here, landing at about 8:30 pm. We go taxi rides to the resort, checked in (and with eleven people, it is WAY more complicated than you'd think). But we got our rooms and then went and checked out the ocean. The eleven of us were the only ones in the outdoor bar/restaurant because by this point it was late. We all had drinks (the pineapple juice is SO good) and celebrated our successful arrival.

Today was amazing! Seeing the resort in daylight, it's gorgeous, so we've had a day full of ocean and pool swimming, eating, reading, playing and relaxing. The sun is so hot that I already have a bit of a tan. Brother, Cousin and I just finished playing cards with two employees Duane(pronounced Dwaine, and Gem). Duane also has a sister Sasha. They work at the 'activities shop/counter thing' and are...rascals, but seem pretty awesome. Within the first few hours of having met them, Sasha tried pushing me in the pool and Duane stole my hat (and not just like take it and waggle it in my face and give it back. He actually took it and left for like, ten minutes).

Not sure what the rest of our plans are. We might go to the disco tonight I think. But even after all the hastle of getting here, this is AWESOME.

Not there yet :(

So, after two travel days (including twelve hours straight in a plain today) we are no farther than Toronto. This morning, we met up with the rest of the family and boarded the plain in toronto headed for Antigua. Near the end of the flight, we find out that a volcano erupted on a little island beside Antigua and so (because of poor visibility caused by volcanic ash) we, and listen carefully, we landed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, re-fueled and flew BACK TO TORONTO!!! So, what should have been a less than five hour trip took twelve hours and we ended up right where we started this morning. After having to wait at the airport for a shuttle which took three tries, seeing as there were so many of us trying to get here, we have arrived at a hotel. We are all dead tired and hungry, in fact, my chicken burger should be on the way as we speak.
For a while there I thought I had miss-named my blog. It should have been 'trying to get to Antigua'. But it turns out there is a special flight out tomorrow morning just for us(and all other hundred people from our flight). So the vacation will continue, just a day late.

Hopefully I will be writing again tomorrow actually IN Antigua.

Almost there!!

I'm about to head off on a nine day trip to Antigua (which is technically Antigua and Barbuda, but since I won't be visiting Barbuda, let's just call it Antigua). Ten members of my extended family are joining me. We're staying at an all-inclusive (which I've never done before) on Long Bay. It promises an amazing beach with great snorkeling and almost every other warm weather activity imaginable.
At this point I have one suitcase with two suitcases worth of clothing. So off I go to pack. I really can't wait!
